Mazda CX-5 Upgraded Rear EPB Caliper

Just like all our product development it starts from identifying a real problem in the industry. Our niche is ‘Solving Brake Problems for the Automotive Trade’. Find out why our caliper developed in conjunction with our European supplier is the long-term solution to the Mazda CX-5 rear brake issues.

The Symptom – Rear Brake Drag Resulting in Brake Noise and Premature Outer Brake Pad Wear

These vehicles often present with abnormal rear inner brake pad wear. Sometimes this can be as drastic as only getting 10,000km out of a set of rear brake pads.

The Issue – Rear Brake Drag Caused by Faulty Internal Caliper Mechanism

The issue with this caliper design is in the internal ball and ramp mechanism which because of a design fault does not allow the caliper to release completely after the handbrake is disengaged. The PW Brakes upgraded calipers includes a revised internal mechanism which overcomes this original design fault. It is important to note that the EPB motor is generally not the component at fault.

Diagnosis

Diagnosing of the issue on these vehicles is self-explanatory. If a vehicle presents with abnormal rear brake pad wear the issue will be in the caliper. Overhauling the caliper with a rubber kit will not overcome the design fault in the ball and ramp mechanism. Our new and remanufactured caliper options have an upgraded fully tested mechanism to overcome these issues.
